Book review Fish tales - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog
Book review Fish tales - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog When you make room for play at work, great things happen. They discovered this at Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle. Selling fish can be hard, boring and repetitious, and a few years back they had very little fun doing it. And then they changed that. Today they have a lot more fun, give their customers a better experience and sell a lot more fish. This has been documented in a film and accompanying book called Fish! and in an additional book in the series called Fish Tales, which contains some great, true stories of organizations at play. Pike Place defined four things that they believe lead to a good work experience: Play Allow yourself to be silly. Bring some fun and games into the workplace. Choose your attitude You decide for yourself what attitude you bring to your job. Be present Be there, in both body and mind. Make their day Give you customers and colleagues good experiences. The interesting thing is, that using these values any job can be a good experience. Fish tales contains a chapter for each of these, and each chapter tells the true story of a different company that has implemented the values, and how this changed them for the better. All the stories are interesting and touching. If you liked Gung Ho, youll like this book too. It uses storytelling to convey its message, and the tips in the book can be understood and used by leaders and employees alike. This is a simple and refreshing way to explain stuff that might otherwise become theoretical and dry. I recommend this book to anyone interested in creating a better workplace whether for yourself or for others. Thanks for visiting my blog. What You Need to Ace That Interview - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach
What You Need to Ace That Interview Applying for a job can be a daunting task, and the interview is the most intimidating part of the process. An interview is your last chance to prove that youre the right fit for the position, and its also the first time youll come face to face with your prospective employer. Many applicants may not even reach the interview stage, as Inc. reports that every corporate position receives an average of 250 applications and of those 250 only four to six applicants will reach the interview process. Thus, you need to make the most of the opportunity and ensure that you increase your chances of getting that job offer. If youre in the process of preparing for your own interview, here are a couple of ways to do it. Research the Company One thing that will make your interview stand out among the rest is research, research, research. According to Post Universityâs post on â5 Reasons Why You Need to Research Before Your Interviewâ states that it demonstrates your enthusiasm for the career field and the company. It also allows you to describe the ways that youll be an asset to the company in line with their mission and vision. Remember, your fellow candidates may also be highly qualified for the position, so if you want to stand out, proving your enthusiasm and preparedness is essential. Practice An interview is the best chance you have of making a good impression and sealing the deal when it comes to a job offer, so you need to ensure that youre prepared for it. While it might be tempting to just waltz in and let your resume speak for itself, that can actually be detrimental to your chances. Fortune favors a prepared mind, so you should take the opportunity to practice before showing up to the interview. Focus on the way you hold yourself, your diction, and practice responses to common interview questions, such as those collected by the Muse. Communicate Effectively Your interview is when you should put your best foot forward, so making sure that you communicate well and effectively is essential. Aviation Job Net details that âyour professional image relates directly to the clarity of your messageâ and describes tips and tricks to help facilitate easier communication between you and your prospective employer. Remember, youll need to be able to give off the impression that youll be an asset to the company. A key part of that is making sure that your messages come across well. Be Punctual Nothing kills your chances for a job worse than showing up for an interview late and under-prepared. The period before the interview is an essential time for you to collect and prepare yourself, and may be equally important as the interview itself. To avoid showing up in a rush, prepare at least 30-minutes to an hour of extra travel time before your interview. The extra time will give you a chance to ease slowly into your interview persona, and shows the company that youre willing to go the extra mile for this job.

Dont Forget To Shine Your Shoes
Dont Forget To Shine Your Shoes Did you know that the mistake made most often in getting ready for an interview is unkempt shoes? According to the Shoe Service Institute of America, 89% of business recruiters rate good grooming high on the requirement list for senior executive material, and the way you take care of your shoes is a big part of the image you present. Heres another quote from this source: Shoes are a reflection of their owners personality. Thats what both personnel professionals who have been known to observe people closely and white collar workers (the people they usually observe) said. Well kept shoes stand for professionalism, attention to detail, ambition, efficiency, conscientiousness, organization, confidence and even friendliness. Now most of us really dont go around looking at everybody elses shoes all the time, its true. But there is one time that your appearance is critically evaluated from the top of your head to the soles of your shoes, and thats during an interview. The way you have groomed your clothing and shoes shows how much you care about detail and the work it takes to keep things in good repair. If you dont bother to shine your shoes or repair that ripped seam for an important interview, what else will you ignore once you are on the job? If you arent interested in ironing a wrinkly shirt, will you be the best candidate for a position that represents the company? These issues might seem a bit nit-picky but what sloppiness reveals is character, and all the interviewer can go on to determine what you will be like is the references in your resume and the evidence in your appearance. It doesnt take much research to figure out how to dress for that job interview, and it doesnt take much work to get that outfit in good condition. But dont forget to shine your shoes.
